Artist Statement
My art showcases my appreciation for the beauty that surrounds me. Art can evoke emotions and spark curiosity, and I want my artwork to inspire viewers to see the world through my sight. I delve into themes that speak to me personally, whether landscapes, contemplating ideas surrounding work ethic, or personal relationships I explore through portraiture.
My artistic process involves careful studying, planning my topic, and willingness to be open to accidents and unexpected outcomes. I use various materials, including charcoal, ink, pastels, and materials used in construction, like drywall, floor tape, etc. The mix of materials adds to my work's descriptive richness, allowing me to be vulnerable and explore my emotional ties to nature, family, and friends.
There are many ways of approaching portraiture. I lean on classical art styles to express modern and contemporary ideas and emotions. My work shows a balance between old methods and new ones.
I am committed to exploring new possibilities and pushing the boundaries of what is possible. I want to showcase reverence for construction, blue-collar workers, and people and places often overlooked - giving them the light they deserve. Taking inspiration from other artists specializing in portraitures, like Stephan Bauman and Cesar Santos, I delve into this creative space offering my unique take on contemporary art from a Guatemalan American perspective.
